Mike Stewart

I missed Mike's presentation last time, so I wanted to make sure that I caught it this time around :)

Mike covered a wide variety of audio and video technologies, including how-tos. The most comprehensive portion of his presentation involved Podcasting. Podcasting is pretty much just a merger of audio files with RSS - you create an RSS feed that points to regularly updated audio files. The end user sets up a piece of software (like iPodder), and connects his MP3 player, and new audio content will automatically be downloaded to your listeners MP3 players for them to listen to on the commute to work, for example.

Mike went through creation of a piece of audio content and turning it into a Podcast live during his presentation.

Now, I'll be honest with you - I'm not too sure I'm sold on Podcasting as something useful to internet marketers right now. Audio content? I'm sold on that… but is there really any advantage to podcasting instead of just providing a download link?

I can download a piece of audio to my hard drive and then drag and drop it onto my MP3 player… as most MP3 player owners probably can… in fact, that's my preferred method (my MP3 player looks like a disk drive in Windows XP, so it's really quite simple.)

Assuming that I'm "getting" it, Podcasting doesn't seem to be anything more than an alternative, somewhat automated delivery system, and I think a lot of internet marketers would be making a big mistake if they removed download links in favor of Podcasting only.

Anywho, keep your eyes on Podcasting, as it seems that a lot of the big names will be using the technology in the coming months… but you'll need to decide for yourself whether using Podcasting is right for you business.
